Dog Friendly Wales

Carmarthenshire Goes Dog Friendly

Carmarthenshire in South West Wales has its very own dog friendly holidays section on its Discover Carmarthenshire website where you can find loads of information about the area.

This stunning part of Wales has lots to offer humans as well as their canine companions:
  • Beautiful beaches and coastal walks
  • Scenic country parks and countryside strolls
  • Castles and many other places to visit that welcome dogs - along with their owners of course!

If you visit the website you'll find much more information including dog friendly pubs and places to eat and dog friendly places to stay and visit - there's even contact details for the local mobile dog grooming service so you can 'dial a dog wash' for your muddy or sandy pet at the end of a hard day of walking!

There's also a 16 page guide to all the dog friendly things about carmarthenshire that you can download, free of charge, from the website - well worth a look, especially for the dog walking inspiration.

Dog Friendly Holidays In Northumbria

Focus on Dog Friendly Northumbria

Northumbria is a great county to explore with your canine companion. Many of the spectacular beaches welcome dogs all year round; there are some great forests and woodlands to explore as well as the stunning scenery of the Northumberland National Park.

Coquetdale is an area set roughly in the middle of Northumbria, around the pretty market town of Rothbury which lies on the River Coquet. Plus 2 Dogs visited the area last spring when there was still some snow to be seen on the top of the impressive Cheviot Hills in the distance and a refreshing (some might say bracing!) wind blowing in off the North Sea.

Here's our ideas on dog-friendly beaches, walks and places to visit if you're thinking of visiting this pretty part of Northumbria:

Excellent dog friendly beaches in this area include:
·         Alnmouth (one of our favourites)
·         Bamburgh (our top recommendation)
·         Beadnell
·         Boulmer
·         Druridge Bay
·         Embleton Bay
·         Howick

Recommended dog friendly walks in the Coquetdale area include:
Our Labradors Tobi & Meg particularly enjoyed exploring the Forestry Commission walks at:
·         Ravensheugh (4.5 miles) Simonside Hills, near Rothbury
·         Castle Hill (4.75 miles) Thrunton Wood, near Rothbury

Dog Friendly Holidays In The Lake District

If you love walking and love having your canine companion with you on day trips, short breaks and holidays then the dog friendly Lake District in Cumbria is an excellent place to head for.
We recently returned from a short break in Grasmere and found the place to be most dog friendly. There were lots of dogs on their holidays in and around Grasmere and Ambleside in particular  and many of the shops welcome dogs - the walking ones especially but even some of the gorgeous gift and homeware shops welcomed them as well! Quite a number of the shops even provided doggy refreshments in the shape of indoor or outdoor water bowls!  If you fancy a bit of refreshment for yourself then some of the cafes are also dog friendly so you don’t have to leave Fido tied up outside whilst you sip your coffee and devour cakes.

If you fancy treating your dog to a bit of retail therapy then a good number of the shops in the Lake District carry ranges of pet products, from coats and leads to toys and snacks. You could also head down to the lake and the Waterhead area in Ambleside to pay a visit to a shop entirely dedicated to pets – the impressive Paws By The Lake.  This shop enjoys an amazing setting right near the lake shore and stocks all that your dog could wish for – toys, collars, beds, food, snacks and much more. For indulging yourself with a little gift or two, there are mugs, pictures, clothing, ornaments – lots of quirky and gorgeous items for you to peruse.
Here’s our ideas for a dog friendly break in the Lakes:
