Dog Days Out

Dog Walks With A Difference

Summer is a great time to get out and about exploring coast and country with family, friends and, of course, your dogs.

If you’re looking for days out ideas that will suit all members of your party or looking for a day out that includes a great dog walk, some lovely scenery and then a leisurely ride back to where you started from, then try combining a walk with a ride on a steam railway.

Plus 2 Dogs has scoured the websites of many steam railways and selected a few choice ones that welcome dogs and could offer you the opportunity to walk one way and then catch the steam train back; some of the railways even have information on their websites on local walk routes which will tie in with their train service. Whilst dogs travel free on many services, others charge a nominal fee per dog, ranging from £1 up to £2.50, check individual websites for details.

Dog Walking In Cairngorms, Scotland

Dog Friendly Scottish Walks

If you're in and around the Aviemore area of the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland then you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to great places to walk your dogs.

Forestry Commission Scotland look after huge areas of forest and woodland including Glenmore near Aviemore and Inshriach near Kingussie and many of these trails are great dog walking territory and offer spectacular scenery for the humans tagging along on the walks as well!

Plus 2 Dogs particularly enjoyed a walk around Loch Morlich near to the Glenmore Caravan & Camping site (the campsite is bookable via Forest Holiday and the site does welcome dogs) - the beach separating campsite, forest and loch (see photo above) is stunning! We also enjoyed the Crag walk and a meander around the Lochans at Inshriach Forest.

For more information on trails in and around Glenmore Forest go to the Forestry Commission's Glenmore page
